Nine rigs from the New Mexico 4-Wheelers completed a two-day overland adventure through the remote backcountry south of Magdalena. On day one, the group followed sections of the historic Old Spanish Trail through ranch country and rugged foothills before climbing into the pinyon, juniper, and ponderosa forests of the San Mateo Mountains to camp at Luna Park in the Cibola National Forest. After a night of primitive camping under clear skies, the group ran the scenic X Ranch Loop on day two, enjoying expansive views, quiet desert terrain, and the rugged beauty of southern Socorro County before airing up near NM-1 and I-25. It was a great weekend of history, exploration, and classic New Mexico backroads travel with good company.
