Ride 1: March 21, 2026
It was a great day exploring the beautiful volcanic remnants and sandstone cliffs in the New Mexico desert. We started out by taking turns climbing a 100 foot hill to get a selfie with Cabezon Peak in the background. Afterwards we drove to our lunch stop on the site of an old homestead where we explored the ruins, ate our lunch, ate lots of cookies that my wife supplied, and visited with each other while checking out each other's rigs. Then we moved on to explore El Dado Station. It was a really fun day exploring a bit of New Mexico History.
Ride 2: March 28, 2026
It was another beautiful day of exploring the New Mexico desert, but began windy and colder than the 21st ride. Of course we started the day by taking turns climbing 100 foot hill like last week. After crossing the Rio Puerco, we made many stops to take photos of the beautiful landscape. We had fun visiting and getting to know each other during our lunch stop. And we stopped several more times for photo ops. We had to slow down for cattle on the road a few times, and we saw lots of cute baby cows too. One spunky calf ran along side our 4x4 convoy for a few hundred feet before giving up and going back to its family. Towards the end of our ride we saw a heard of wild horses with two colts. Overall, we had a fun day exploring the road less traveled through the New Mexico desert.
